Life-long home to a purchased condo in a 55+ community
When we first met with Janet, she was grieving the loss of her husband and recovering from a severely broken leg. Janet experienced the absolute worst case scenario of losing her spouse and immediately having her own health crisis. She had lost her husband and had a severely broken leg which made navigation of her tri-level home impossible.
This meant that Janet had to live in an independent living community while she rehabilitated her leg right after losing her husband. When we met in her tri-level home, it had stood vacant and unused for months while she was in rehab. Janet was overwhelmed and faced with a tri-level home packed full of her husband’s collections all while rehabilitating her leg and knowing that stairs should not be a part of her future.
We hammered out a downsizing plan that included finding Janet a safer one-story home. Because her husband had huge collections of audio and camera equipment but not other items of value, we knew she might be perfect for a buy-out situation instead of an estate sale.
Janet chose the items she wanted to keep. Her adult children came and took the items they wanted from their father’s collections. And then we brought in two buy-out specialists. Janet chose the plan she liked best, and the collections were sold and her home cleaned out. This occurred while Janet continued to live in her rehab community.
Working on a timeline set by her rehab, Janet’s home was sold and we found her a beautiful one-story condo in a 55+ community that she then purchased. She was able to move directly from her rehab unit into her new condo that was the perfect distance between all of her friends.
